Fees for part-time courses will depend on the qualification you want, how many units you study within a year, and how the course is taught.

Undergraduate

The funding available for part-time undergraduate, Foundation and PGCE students is different to the support to which full-time students are entitled.

Tuition fee loan You can get up to £6,935* per academic year, dependent on your course 'intensity': this means, to be eligible, you must complete 25%* or more of the module credits a full-time student would study each year. If you are eligible, the loan amount depends on how much the University charges in tuition fees and not on your household income. The tuition fee loan is paid directly to the University or college.

Maintenance loan This loan is to help you with your living costs while studying. How much you are entitled to depends on:

• your household income
• where you live while studying
• your course 'intensity' (25%* or more of the full-time course modules completed each year).

The maintenance loan goes straight into your bank account, two weeks after the start of each term.

You will be asked how many module credits you will complete each year when you apply for your loans so check with our Admissions team in advance if you aren’t sure.

Postgraduate

There is now a you can apply for, to help cover course fees and living costs. You can get up to £12,471*, non-means tested and paid directly to you, with payments divided equally across each year of your course. It is available to those taking both taught and research Master’s courses.

Other postgraduate funding avenues you should explore include:

• your employer, if you are in work and your Master's subject is relevant to your employment. Ask about any financial contribution or CPD schemes they may be able to offer
• educational trusts and charities – there are a few that provide funding for postgraduate study including (for humanities and social sciences courses); the (for engineering courses); and the (for science courses)
• funding and bursaries offered for Initial Teacher Training, health care and social work courses.

How your fees are calculated

As a part-time student, your fees will depend on how many units you study as you will only pay for the units that you study each year. You will be charged pro rata to the full-time fee.

The course units are designed from 'blocks of credits'.

• Full level comprises 120 credits for undergraduate courses
• Full level comprises 180 credits for postgraduate courses
